The building on the Decoy Three small buildings in very poor condition (30 m2), should be replaced by one new building (34 m2) which contains the following:
Decoy master function Catching all species of water birds during the migration periods. The Decoy master is responsible for dissemination of information/receiving visitors. Therefore, the room must be situated close to the Decoy. The room must have a table, shelves and a wash basin.
Dissemination of information/exhibition The room contains a permanent poster exhibition describing migration, species of birds, the importance of Fanø and the history and extension of duck Decoys. Furthermore, there will be relevant periodic thematic exhibitions. The target group consists of students, tourists, professional groups etc. Posters will be hung on the walls of the room and on the inside of the doors. There are enough space for a group, such as a school class.

Tool shed Maintenance of the Decoy requires a brush and weed cutter and a small trailer for transporting trash, feed etc. Furthermore, the feed must be stored under safe conditions.
Construction/architecture The building must be situated close to the entrance with the open front facing south towards an area, defined by its curved shape. The closed facade “arches its back” towards the north and the woods, which come close to the building. The design of the building will consist of a wooden construction on a foundation of concrete placed on an approx. 50 cm raised platform to prevent flooding damages. Insulation: to a limited extent. Load-bearing roof construction: slim visible planks per 60 cm. Facade covering: unplaned, impregnated, black-stained boards. Roof: X-plywood with black tar paper in listedækning. Inside covering: vertical, unplaned boards. Everything painted white. Floors: Bricks on sand. Technical specifications: Electricity cable led from transformer close to parking lot. A water well will be established on the site. Waste water is collected in tank.
Watch tower In the north-eastern part of the Duck Decoy, the old watch tower is re-established, so that visitors can be on a level with the tree tops and have a good view of the Decoy, the surrounding landscape or monitor the migrating birds. |
